Materials: stream table
sand
2 lengths of plastic tubing
2 plastic pails
3 wood blocks
water
Procedure:
1. Place the stream table on a classroom table. Put the stream-table support under the back end of the stream table.
2. Fill the stream table with sand.
3. Using two fingers, make a path, or channel, down the middle of the sand.
4. Connect one end of one length of tubing to the front of the stream table. Let the other end of the tubing hang over the edge of the table and place an empty pail on the floor under the end of the tubing.
5. Place the other pail higher than the stream table and fill it ¾ full of water.
6. Put the second length of tubing into this pail, and fill it with water.
7. Start the water flowing through the tube from the pail to the stream table by lowering one end of the filled tube.
